mk3 golf clutch problem

Hi,I have a mk3 vw golf convertible 1996,the clutch went coming home,I had the panel off the end of the gearbox and found the lever which pushes the rod in the gearbox had broken.I replaced this and the clutch cable.I then got my clutch pedal back but have no drive.I had the gearbox out and everything looks ok.I can drive the car without the clutch on the revs and the gears all seem ok but i can not have a clutch prdal and drive.
