Called in at my local VW Dealer on my way home from work & I was informed that the Scirocco 170 TDI can now be ordered in GT form only.
List Price £ 21,755

Greedy VW - I said it again. £21755 for a 170 Scirocco seems about £400 overpriced when you compare other models and the price differentials:-

Scirocco 2.0TSI = £21340
New Golf GTI 3DR = £22410

Golf is £1070 dearer.

Scirocco 170GT = £21755
Golf GTD 3 DR = £21850

Golf is £95 dearer.

Yes, the Golf GTI has slightly better wheels than the GTD, but there's only about £400 in it between the 2 sets of wheels, so shouldn't the GTD be about £600 dearer than the 170GT Scirocco:-

(£1070 (Golf GTI/ Scirocco TSI difference) - £400 (wheel price differential from Golf GTD to GTI wheels) )

It seems daft to have the Scirocco 2.0TSI at £400 cheaper than the TDI170.

When you compare the Golf GT 140TDI to the GTD there is quite a price difference, but a lot of that is down to equipment differences.

On a Scirocco GT, the only difference between the 140 and 170 TDI since the move to common rail is a remap, possibly a slight difference in the injectors and possibly the 170 might get twin tail pipes. For there to be a £905 difference in price for a remap and potentially £100 worth of tail pipe seems excessive.

Might stick with the 140 - 30 more horses for £955 and no discernible equipment differences seems too much. I've had both the 140 and 170 TDI golf, the extra 30 horses can't be fully used in 2nd gear as there's too much torque for the grip you have.

I was holding on for the 170 - expecting a £600 differential between the 2, what a disappointment!

Is the 140bhp scirocco now using the common rail engine then?

Scirocco and Golf Mk6 140 TDI engines are common rail with piezo crystal injectors (as first seen on the 2.0TDI 170 PD engine) and have DPF (again, only previously on the 170PD).

Test drove a 140 TDI Scirocco on Sunday, it was smoother than my 170 PD Golf, but didn't sound as gruff when you opened it up. Lower end felt fast, but a lot less power in 6th at motorway speeds (for overtaking).

The pricepoint is still wrong for the TDI170 - how can a 170TDI be £400 more than the 2.0TSI?

In every other VW car in the UK range, the 2.0TSI/TFSI is more expensive than the 170TDI.

I'd love one, but settled for the 140 - there is no way a remap (and no extra equipment) is worth £950.
