Thanx for reading this!
I need to get a new engine for my Golf but I can't afford the nearly £5K price tag I've been quoted, so am going for either a reclaimed or refurb one. Any ideas how much I should be paying for a 2.0 GT FSi engine? I was quoted £1250 for an 8,000 mile one!!
Really appreciate any pointers :1zhelp:

Personally I'd torch it and claim the insurance!

£1250 doesnt sound too bad against 5k for a new one, just keep hitting Google and autotrader/ebay/breakers etc etc.

Good low mileage used is better any day than a half backed dodgy recon (more con than recon) and £1250 fitted is extremely good, take it before you lose it. What was it, cam belt or oil pressure?

Hmmm, tempting but not really an option! I found out that engine is in south wales, and the geezer wouldn't give me a company name... cue alarm bells!!! I'll keep looking I think!

It was the mrs crashing the gears we think somehow she selected 2nd straight from 6th and the over rev has shot the pistons and the cylinder head! Not sure cos I wasn't in the car at the time but the garage said they'd never seen damage like it!!
