This may sound a little left-field, but I brimmed the tank last week (for the first time) and for about 50 miles I could hear the diesel sloshing around in the back - I actually stopped twice to check to see if there was a leak somewhere (no).

My question here is, though, is it just me?

That's also happening with my 2 B5 Passats, I agree it can be disconcerting..:D

Just purhcased my Golf MK6 and have experienced the sloshing fuel tank noise after my first fill-up!

Does anyone now if this issue can be resolved and if so, how? - other than turning the radio up loader!

Must be the air pocket at the top of the tank or shape which casues it..

First time i have heard of this one..

Holy thread resurrection batman :)

I find that after about 30 odd miles, it goes away - I wonder if it's fuel in the neck that does it?

Is this only happening with diesel fuel? I have always topped my Golfs up to the brim (petrol cars) and have never heard a sloshing noise and believe me I have got sensitive hearing and pick up any unusual, extraneous sounds (unfortunately)!!

I can't say that I've noticed any sloshing. The handbook doesn't recommend tanking the car due to the expansion in warm weather. I've always tanked cars thats the only why to check true fuel con. ;)

5 weeks of ownership - haven't heard anything with mine and, believe me, I have ears like a bat for rattles, squeaks and sloshing noises! Think I get it from my old Dad who was obsessed with the tappets noise from his Vauxhall Viva!

Viva tappets lol that brings back memories. They had to be adjusted every 3 months with the engine running, used to destroy feeler gauges, and more than once the spanner slipped off and I caught my knuckles on the spinning fan blades (not an electric fan).

LOL - talking about Viva tappets - I think that makes you and me a certain age!

I was brought up on Viva's but I never set the valve clearances with the engine running, fools. ;)

Viva HA, HB Series up to 1970, HC up to 1971
Inlet 0.006" (0.15mm)
Exhaust 0.010" (0.25mm) Hot

Noticed this with my Diesel. Especially when stopping you can hear the fuel moving about.

Thanks for the feedback. Down to half a tank now and can still hear it, but less so. Has anyone reported this to their local dealership/service dept and if so, what was their response?

Contacted dealer and he said it could be the baffler in the fuel tank but never heard of any issues before?

Yes my petrol version does it too. It must be the design of the fuel tank - just turn the radio up...

Mine does this from full for about 50-80 miles. Quite annoying but I have just gotten used to it.
