Hi,

Please can someone help this common coding query- I have tried all I can find on here, but appear to be lacking experience with module 'Login' and 'Recoding'. The two terms seem to be interchanged in some cases and I'm not sure which is appropriate- and I don't want to break my new car!

To start, here is a full scan. Cruise control equipment just installed but not enabled in ECU.

I understand from the Audi instructions I need to enable the cruise control in both modules 16 and 01. I know the coding in 16 needs to change from 01001 to 01021. To do this, I selected the module and clicked on 'Coding' Entered 01021 and click 'Do it!' But the coding remains unchanged. Any ideas? I know some steering modules are not compatible with cruise control, but reading the instructions I believe mine should be fine. If this is correct, I can only assume my procedure is not correct.

Having attempted module 16, I started looking at 01 with the 11463 entered into 'Login'. I have yet to do this as I don't have any new 'Coding' to enter even if the Login is correct. Does the action of Login with 11463 activate cruise control without having to identify a new Coding number too? I can't find Coding options on Ross Tech Wiki and as you can see, the label file gives a redirect error. I believe I have the latest software and data files- I'm guessing this engine just wasn't released in the US? I have attached a zip of my 01 engine .plb file too just in case.

Any help much appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Andy

Depending on the protocol used by the ECU, the old "Login" function is now "Coding II" and Security Access is now used where Login used to be. I suspect this at least part of your source of confusion. This is not something that we did, it's something that VW/Audi has done.

Doing a Login (or Coding II) in 01-Engine with 11463 should enable cruise in that module. There is no nothing else involved there, just that.

The reason your 16 module won't accept the coding is because it's a low-line module and doesn't support cruise. Please see this page:

Thanks Uwe- I have finally got it all working.

For anyone else attempting this- read on- it's easy when you know how!

My control module 16 was indeed a low line as Uwe advised. I had to determine which of the mid or high line modules were the correct part number. After some searching and discussion with Audi it appeared 8E0-953-549-N was the correct part which correlated with Uwe wiki page for a mid line spec. Just over Ł100 later I had the correct part delivered. Shame I didn't know this before as I then had to remove the steering wheel again, remove the control stalks and attach the new steering module. If you see any parts diagrams, it is the U shaped part which comes down onto the top of the steering column onto which the stalks attach. Incidently, a tool which makes this job a lot easier on my A4 is a long reach T8 torx screwdriver- you need this to remove the two screws which hold the lower shroud onto the underside of the steering column. The Allen key type just are not long enough at such a small size head.

Anyway, I digress- with new stalk, new steering module 16 fitted and engine module logged in with 11463 (which does exactly what Uwe advised) all that was left was to re-code the steering module with my spec level.

I opened up controller 16 and entered the new code, which in my case was 01021. And bingo, the coding stayed there instead of dissappearing.

Job done- almost. So now all I had to do was get all the ABS and ESP lights to go out. So I cleared all the fault codes to see what was left- which was quite a list. However, when re-scanning the modules I noticed the coding for the ABS had been reset to 00000 instead of 04475 which it was before. So I figured I would just log in and re-code again, as with the steering module. This is nearly the case, but before you can re-code ABS, you must 'log in' correctly prior to 'recoding'. The 'login' code to use is prompted by VAGCOM when you hit the button and hover over the entry box. In my case with the spec of my car, I needed to enter 09375 to login, click 'do it'. Then under coding I needed to enter 04475 as before ( again, there is a prompt to establish this if you did not scan before ). BUT, before closing the ABS controller, in order to keep this coding in place, you need to calibrate the steering angle sensor G85 too.

Thankfully, all these steps are clearly described here:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/Audi_A4_%288E%29_Brake_Electronics_%28Bosch_5.7%29

So, all done.....nearly. Module installed, coded, ABS re-coded BUT all the lights are still flashing. All error codes have gone except with ABS where it had '01486 - System Function Test Activated'

So after doing the following:

http://wiki.ross-tech.com/index.php/ESP_System_Function_Test_%28Bosch%29

The lights eventually went out. No fault codes, all coded and cruise control still works.

Thanks Ross-Tech! :D
