Stupid question alert

The question is
Which way is your engine mounted.
The reasoning behind this is that I went into gsf today to order a new water pump and a new cam belt kit and the guy behind the counter said that my engine is a rare one. its a b5 passat tdi 1.9 sport 115bhp. i have had a look on the net and not found anything strange about my car but am now wondering why my my engine is rare. whenever i have looked at any passats the engines have all seemed to be mounted horizontaly (engine pointing from wheel to wheel) but mine points from the front of the car to back. am i just being stupid here or is that different than most. can anyone shed any light on this for me as to why my engine is supposedly rare

its not rare its mounted the same way a rear wheel drive engine is fitted although it fwd.
lift the bonnet on any passat or a4 group you will find the engines the same way as yours.

alot of the time but not always the staff that work at these store outlets haven't a clue they learn more the longer they work there.
