I have a 2008 Golf Mk5 1.4S which has a fault diagnosed by VW Roadside Assist. This fault has occured at least 15 times.
The ECU refuses to recognise the transponder in the ignition key and turns the immobiliser on with the result that the engine runs for 2-3 seconds then stops. After a while it restarts normally. Only once has the fault resulted in the "crawl home mode" and that was all the way from Birmingham to Cheshire.
My local VW Agent will not replace the ECU unless it exhibits the fault whilst on their premises. VW UK back them up.
VW Roadside Assist has no connection with VW UK and VW UK has no electronic means of gathering the computer read-out from RA.
VW have refused to swap the ECU on a return basis as the rules don't allow this.
I'm left with a car that has a known problem and is not reliable
Any thoughts that may lead to a solution??
