My daughter has a mk 5 golf 1.4 with the standard fitment 15inch steel wheels. She has asked me to look for some VW oe alloys on ebay and I notice that some are 15inch and some are 16inch. Do both fit and if fitting 16inch would it affect the gearing much or the accuracy of the speedo. Thanks in anticipation.

Go up a wheel size and drop the profile of the tyres.
Should keep the wheel/tyre size around the same ae original.

Try this (http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/tirecalc.php) to see the speedo accuracy etc on the new wheels.

Generally if fitting genuine wheels with the factory spec tyre size, you don't need to worry about the speedo accuracy, it'll be the same.

With wider wheels, your rolling resistance will increase slightly, so expect a very slight loss of mpg if upgrading to much wider tyres.
