Hi all.
Been lurking for a while, soaking up all of the advice.
One thing that has always bugged me is the limp performance of my 1997 2.8 auto cabriolet. I don't expect a rocketship, but constant flooring of the throttle is a little undignified for such a prestige car. The auto gearbox appears reluctant to be used enthusiastically on part throttle, which means that as I ease off the throttle it changes up immediately, rather than holding the lower gear for longer. It seems to want to go into top gear as soon as possible, meaning part throttle overtakes are difficult, if not impossible. For 174bhp, it's disappointing. It seems that to make any 'progress' you have to floor it everywhere. It almost feels like an 'elastic' throttle response.
I had the gearbox rebuilt last year, but the performance is no different, although it's smoother. my 80's Merc auto boxes are brilliant; they seem so much more at home - accelerating when you need to and changing up as required.
Is this normal?
Can the gearbox be adjusted?
My old Merc has Sport and Economy modes. My Audi seems to have the worst of both....
