I have a 1999 audi a4 quattro 2.8 and whenever i touch the brake peddle my running lights come on. How do i fix this?

Look for an earth fault on the rear light clusters.

If the earth is dodgy, then the brake lights earth themselves back through the running light (side light) circuit. This causes the front sidelights to come on.

What happens when the running lights are switched on and you brake? If it's a missing earth, the rear lights often go out.

What happens when the indicator is flashing and you brake?

Have you replaced any of the rear bulbs recently?

i just recently replaced the break light bulbs.

I'm not being funny, but have you made sure you replaced them correctly?

I've seen wrong bulbs used which have caused problems similar to yours - single pole bulb in dual socket, double in single, double bulb round the wrong way (it takes a bit of forcing, but can be done) or not tightened in enough.

Are you getting any errors on the DIS / Bulb warning system?

well long story short when i replaced them i just used the bulb that was in it as a guide to buy a new one and didnt check to even see if it was the right one and it was a 1 pule bulb instead of two. So you guys were right. thanks for the help!
