Hi, I have a 2005 A4 2.4 Sport Cab with a BOSE sound system. I have the Symphony head unit with 6 discs in the head unit and a cassette?!

Suddenly the radio has stopped working (although the CD works fine) as it can't find any radio stations so I mainly get white noise coming through the system. Every now and then it will find a station, but it doesn't fully lock onto it so it will only be in a few channels, not all speakers. Yesterday I took the car in to have a new hub fitted, I asked if the radio could be looked at, the fault returned was electric short, but they didn't have any keys to get the head unit out.

I have taken the car this morning to an audio specialist who took the head unit out for me, so I could see if it was something as nice and simple as a lead that has worked it's way loose...but it hasn't. I told the guy what was wrong and he didn't seem interested in wanting to look at it for me, he wanted to put a third party unit in instead, but I only want OE parts in it.

I have the car booked in with Audi next week, but I wondered if anyone could point me in the direction of a good independent audio specialist who will be able to track the fault instead of me spending hundreds at a dealership?

I work in Birmingham in the Midlands, and live in Staffordshire.

Many thanks

Daniel

Sounds very much like what happened to me, just after i bought my car, and its expensive (labour not parts). Audi replaced the aerial wires and antenna, which meant taking half the car apart in order to replace them. It's a known fault although they won't own up to it!

You are looking at £££s

Can't you just run a new areal and leave the old cable in place, surely a good audio supplier could do it.

Good luck.

Sounds like the same problem I have. 2003 A4 Cab same stereo. My radio can be working fine then suddenly will stop working, like there is no radio reception, can only get the local station. the radio could be not working for maybe a week, then it will just start working normally. It's been fine for about 2 weeks now but am expecting it to go off at any time. Very frustrating. It's going into the dealer shortly to go on the VAG analyser. Will keep you posted.

Did you get your radio sorted.

Was there a fault with the aerial wire?

Aerial wire was broken as it enters the boot lid.
All sorted.

Antenna is on the bott lid.. The cable normally breaks in the loom near the hinge.

Thanks Kite
I have a A4 B6 so I guess its in the same position.
I have only found about 6 /7 electrical wires loomed together that goes into boot lid , is the Aerial cable one of these
Does it normally brake in the Boot lid itself or where the wire comes into the boot compartment itself
Regards Colin

The break normally occurs where the loom bends round the boot hinge.

Dnt want to sound dense and confirm if I am looking in the right place.
Is the aerial wire one of these 6/7 that are in a loom leading into the boot lid
Regards Colin

It will be one of those.
The antenna is on the inside of the boot lid.. You could remove the trim and trace the wires or check for continuity

This is affecting my B6 Cabriolet too - radio signal disappears for maybe half an hour, then suddenly returns - if it is the aerial cable by the boot lid which is damaged, can it be repaired without renewing the full length of cable ?

Find the break, which is normally by the hinge, cut it out and solder in new cable
