I just picked up my new A3 2.0T FSI which is three years old, and I was surprised that I couldn't hear the turbo working as I could with my 8 year old 1.8T.

I haven't pushed it yet, but with my old one it would function even at 3,000rpm.

I can feel lots of power, I was just wondering whether the newer models are more refined and have silenced the whistling sound.

firstly change the recirc valve for something more substantial (i like baileys personally). It might just be possible that the valve is leaking boost??? I had it on my old mk4 golf 1.8T, changed the valve and then heard the whistle. It also could just be that the soundproofing is better on the newer car??
deffinately get a remap though, well worth it if you haven't already. ;)

Thanks. I'm not keen on making any modifications though, I was just curious as to whether the newer cars are more soundproof as you said.

I'm taking it for a health check so I'll find out then I guess.
