Hi, have just purchased a 2002 Golf Gt Tdi 150 Anniversary with 67,000miles, 1 owner with Full VW History. Its a fantastic car except on acceleration i get a cloud of black smoke whick clears and also on steady acceleration in third gear i get the smoke to. I have had it checked by my local VW dealer who say this is normal. It passed smoke test and boost tests e.t.c. I have also had the egr valve cleaned out but its embarassing in daylight as i leave behind black smoke everywhere!

Any suggestions would be appreciated or am i worrying about nothing?

Many thanks.
Andrew.

hi,

i think there is defo something up there mate, i have a gt tdi 150 also, its been superchiped, during the day when i boot the car in any gear i cant see any smoke, its only in the dark when i boot it that the car behind me, the headlights show the smoke more.

i would take it to a independant garage who specialises in vw / audi's, and see what they say.

has the car be de-cat'd as that might produce more smoke ??

watch the main dealers as they tend not to be as good and more pricey than local vw specialist independants.

Agreed, we don't want to drive members away, some people don't have 24/7 internet access.

Many thanks Ian, i think 'eshrules' lacks patience!! I will contact a local Vw specialist and see what they think. I can see the smoke worse in the dark with the light reflection. I have read about camshaft wear on the 150's but hopefully it wont be that serious! Many thanks again.

i hope you will pop back and post on this thred your findings after you have had your car seen to mate, will be good to know as we can then remember and advise other ppl that ask a similar question.

i dont think cam shaft wear would produce alot of smoke, but you just never know !!

keep us informed mate and good luck :beerchug:

Let us know how you get on with it.. totally off topic but gear boxes are also common on them due to the amount of torque..
