The only way to check for sure whether there are fuel supply problems is find someone who has VAG-Com/VCDS on a lap-top with a genuine authorised Ross-Tech adaptor. Get him to sit in the car as you drive and monitor 01 Engine/08 Measuring Blocks Group 103 (Low pressure Fuel Pump Output) and Measuring Blocks Group 140 (High Pressure Fuel Rail). Might be an idea to monitor Group 001 as well so that you have the rpm value to log. Log the results and check them out later. For information my 1.6FSI, 25k Miles, has a Group 103 reading of around 4400mBar at tickover and a Group 140 reading of 60 Bar rising to 107Bar when the engine is revved. The low pressure reading rises slightly to about 5000mBar when the engine is revved. When the fault occurs, check which reading has taken a dive.

This thread is quite old now but from memory I recall that the fix was to replace the low pressure fuel pump located in the petrol tank. Justin might be able to confirm this for you. Hope this helps.
