Hi all,
I've got a Golf Mk V 54 2.0 GT whcih has done just over 42,000 miles. Bought the car last year in August and done just over 5,000 miles in 7 months so heading towards 10,000 miles in my first year.
Last week, I got an Ipod connection fitted by a VW dealership, and lo and behold, despite me not asking for it, they did a visual inspection and gave me a list of things that needed doing. The most important thing on it was they advised replacing the cambelt seeing that the car is over 4 years and over 40,000 miles.
The manual says at least 60K and mates who have Mk IV Golfs say to leave it to alt least 50K. VW also want to replace the water pump, and the whole thing is going to set me back £500 at least.
So, my questions are,
1) Do I really need to replace the cam belt now even though the majority of Golf owners say no based on experience?
2) Why is the water pump required to be replaced at the same time?
Thanks a lot guys! Appreciate any help!
