Golf Mk5 1.4 Backfire!!!

Hello everyone, hopefully someone can help!

Was just driving to work this morning and my Golf backfired! Smoke came out the back and the exhaust light came on in the dash! The car drove ok the rest of the way to work, but the light is still on.

Can anyone advise?

Hi You will need to have a fault code read,probably a faulty coil???
