My otherwise magnificent A4 2.0TDi 140BHP has got me a little worried lately! On a cold start, I notice a big dirty black plume of smoke..that very quickly dissipates and then all is fine. I am due a service in about 2000 miles time. Is this a cause for concern?

Many thanks

Glow plugs. Is it losing coolant?

I'm not sure it is losing anything. I haven't noticed any residue on the ground in the mornings. I have it serviced regularly. It has 115,000 km on the clock. I drive around 600 km per week but these are mainly motorway journeys. I love the car but hate this black smoke!

Glow plugs first then and I recommend the head harness is changed at the same time. A fault code read before any actual work is done would be a sensible move.
