Hi i have a 1996 1.4 polo the temp guage sits at zero all the time and in the morning on cold starts it makes a funny noise when turning the key then second go it starts. Any idea what the problem could be? or what should i check for?

Thanks.

sound like the normall starter squark to me ,change the starter and the coolant temp sender.the temp sender could have packed up causing the gauge to sit at zero

You should make sure that the starter bush in the box is OK whilst the starter is out, if it is worn a new starter will fail quite quickly. If it is badly damaged, it can mean a new box section to deal with it and that can get very expensive.
