Hi All - I've a 2000 1.4TDi with 75k on the clock, a great little car but it has a niggling and seemingly expensive problem. The issue is that the ABS malfunction warning light keeps coming on. To try and correct, I've had both ABS sensors replaced and the believe is that is now the ABS ECU at fault. I nearly had a heart attack when my Audi dealer quoted £854 (inc VAT) for just the part. Anyone got any thoughts as to what the problem might be and a more economic way of repairing. Thanks:1zhelp:

What code is being reported?

I bought a brand new VW ABS ecu on ebay for £35, if you add the £199 Vag-com cable to code it in that's a cheap repair ;)

As crasher said, tell us the code we can find an answer :D

the front abs wiring looms to the wheel sensors break causing open circuit so a continuity check of the wiring and check for mutual shorts and short to + and - will eliminate the looms,if the looms are fine and a good scope pattern is visible from all the wheel sensors then its likely that there is a electrical failure in the abs but a fault code would help out a lot
