My wife's car is a Sept.2001 1.4 8v Polo (Match) It has done just 40,000 miles and runs very well when warmed up. However, when it is started in the morning (after a night on the drive) it struggles to fire up. The colder its been the worse it seems. It either won't start - as if flooded or if it does start, runs as if its firing on 2/3 plugs. If left to warm up or if driven away it soon becomes absolutely fine.
It has been regularly dealer serviced and the plugs etc. were changed last July. Are they duff plugs ? Could the air filter need changing. Is it more serious ? Does anyone have any ideas or DIY remedies ?

Thanks for your guidance but where is the cold start valve and what can I do to it ? Sorry if I'm being a bit thick. Can it be cleaned up or something like that or does it need to be replaced ?
