I have a 2004 Passat 1.9TDi, when coming off the motorway the car lost complete power (wouldn't rev above 1200) and the glow plug light came on with the yellow abs warning light and text 'engine workshop'. I limped it for about 4 miles then parked up.

I switched the car off and left it for 20mins, it then started perfectly, no lights and drove as before. As I was concerned if it had happened on the motorway I took it into the VAG dealer. They put it on the reader which showed the following

1 fault detected

18047 P1639 035
Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1+2
Range/Performance

Sporadic fault

then

ABS/EDL/ASR/ESP
4B0614517G
ABS/ESP front 3428
Coding 4255

1 fault detected

01314 079
Engine control module
Read fault memory
Sporadic fault.

The garage ran the test plan for 03-brake electronics (01314) and 01 engine electronics p1639. Both ran and cleared the faults from the ECU showing no throttle sensor or ABS faults

It hasn't reappeared but I'm worried if it happens again and the motorway it could be dangerous.

Anyone experienced this before, if so how was it resolved and clues at all?

Thanks in advance

Rob

Possible earth/grounding fault. Are the battery terminals tight?

Accelerator has two position sensors that feed to the ecu. My guess is one of them sent an odd signal which the ecu didn't like so went into limp mode. This could also be a wire fault between accelerator sensor and ecu. As it cleared when you restarted there isn't much you can do but wait for it to happen again.

So you think it's an intermittant thing, could this just be a one off freak thing or do you think it will happen again just not sure when?

JUST HAD THE SAME THING HAPPEN TO MY 2003 130 TDI .
IT STARTED AND RAN AGAIN FOR A BIT .THEN SAME THING
HAPPEN AGAIN.. BUT THIS TIME STAYED IN LIMP MODE.
ONCE THE ACCELERATOR WAS CHANGED IT SORDED THE CAR.
TOUCH WOOD THATS THE END OF IT..
