My wife has an 04 2Ltr Beetle and first thing in the morning or after the car has been standing for some time she has trouble starting the engine. The battery seems to turn the engine over well but it just will not fire up as it should. It starts better on second turn of the key but not quite right. Any ideas? or is it a trip to the local dealers for it to be plugged in.

Hi guys,

I drive a 2000 model Beetle 2.0 and all seems to be going quite strong so far.

However, my car has almost the same problem when on a morning start (1st start for the day) or if its been parked for at least 4 - 5 hours.

:1zhelp:

It has a strong starter turn (new battery), but when the starter swings it just doesnt 'catch on' until the 3rd or 4th swing, and idles with a lumpy idle (almost switching off) then stabilises and settles down perfectly normal. Then it performs perfectly normal on every start thereafter... (or until its been parked for a few hours)

Any possible 'common faults' i could investigate?

Oh yes, the car has 265,000km on the odo, with full service history.

Thanks in advance!
