Hi can anybody help with suggestions, cant decide what to do for the best.
my wife has a vw polo 2004 1.4twist and i have a vw Passat (b6) 2006 Tdi sport. is there a handheld unit that anybody can reccomend that will read and clear errors from both of these cars.
Or am I better trying to scrape enough money together and get Vag-com.
I have been looking on http://www.gendan.co.uk but dont have a clue what is what.
Has anybody had experience with these hand-helds and can shed light as to whether they are any good.

As your car is can-bus you can only use the ross-tech dongle if you want to run vag-com. Price is approx £260.00 plus a laptop. The hand helds are ok but they don't really do diagnostics. You mostly get a code with very little help. When you consider that vag-com will cost about the price of 5 code reads at a dealer it is very good value for money and it is the best.

If the only functions you require are basic fault code reading and clearing, you can pick up canbus VAG compatible handheld scanners for around £30/40.

a scanner like the U281, from Uiftech would do the job.

Click (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-VW-AUDI-SEAT-SKODA-OBD-2-FAULT-CODE-READER-U281-VAG_W0QQitemZ250373632339QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Dia gnostic_Tools_Equipment?hash=item250373632339&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1689%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318)

if, however, you're going to want to get more indepth, like monitoring measuring blocks or performing adaptations, you'd be best off with vagcom.

I'd stump up for VAG-COM. I'm glad i bought it, although I did get a blinding deal through a group buy. Current exchange rate doesnt help either! It is worth the investment though.

Hi thanks for the replies had a look at that u281 it doesn't say if it does airbag light, only had car a few hours and managed to set that warning light off.
from feedback i have received and from what i have read around the forum it looks like iam gonna try find money from somewhere and get Vag-com i intend keeping my car for a few years, and when i do get rid it will most prob be replaced with another passat, i had my last one 6 years (b5) so hopefully this will be as good and last as long.
thanks to everybody that reponded to my request. :D:D:D:D
