Hi,
I'm changing the lump in my 89 rocco gt from a 1.8 to a 1.6 for insurance purposes due to my age and the fact the lumps dying.

Will the clutch flywheel etc fit and work ok with a the 1.8 gearbox?????

from what i've read they are both 020 gearboxes but the clutch friction disc are different sizes,do i have a problem?
Thanks!

The clutches for a 1.6 and 1.8 are the same but if there are any worries, just use the 1.8 clutch on the 1.6 engine. I can’t see your insurance company dropping your premium, they would need proof that the new engine is a 1.6 and as a 1.6 block can have 1.8 internals bolted straight in and a 1.6 head says 1.8 on the front of it, it would be hard to prove.

As said check with your company as to premiums, nowadays they have access to the DVLA database and if you give them the regd. nos it will come back as an 1800.
Tell them that it is a 1600 and they will either , ask you for an engineers report, decline to insure you or claim as it is a modified car it warrants a higher premium.
