Hello,

Yes they are similar, but I suspect the capacities are different, some parts will be interchangeable. But I also expect there to be more 1800 GTI spares around to be honest. The engine was used right up to 1990 in the Cabriolet

The system is mechanical made by bosch.it called K Jetronic.

Its a simple system to work on, the main faults are fuel pump as the system pump 90 of the fule around and back to the tank at high pressure, fuel filters, cold start valve, dirty injectors.

Also rusty fuel filtler neck filling tank with rust particals that clog the pump.

What issues do you have with the current car?

I used to own a 1800GTI Cabby ;)

hi
we havent got any issues as such coz the car is in bits we bought it last year to rebuild
the engine was already out of the car which had been in a barn for many years so the injection system is rusty
i could clean it up but i dont know how bad the innards of the metering head is going to be
so been looking on ebay
a guys got one that he says will fit 1600 or 1800 thats why i thought i would query it
would one off a later cab do it then?
thanks

I would go for cleaning and plugging it all together then buy what don't work. Parts aren't that scarce.

There is even a MK1 Owners Club...well worth joining.

Good bunch of people and know the MK1 inside out ;)
