Anyone else know what causes this and has successfully cured the problem?

Whilst cornering at any speed, any gear, any throttle position, in either steering direction, the car is fine whilst you hold a constant lock, but as soon as you try and increase or decrease the lock slightly, there is a kind of 'resist then give' feel to the steering - as if it doesn't want to turn and has gone stiff, but with a fraction more presure on the wheel, gives and carries on turning.

It turns freely from lock to lock without any strange feelings or noises.
The belt is fine and tensioned correctly.

It's nothing major, just a little something that spoils an otherwise nice drive.

The fact that it is the same at any amount of lock and in either direction suggests to me that it isn't the rack, but possible a valve etc in the pump?

Anyone?

I would try a new belt. They can look fine and still sometimes slip.

Doesn't feel like belt slip to be honest, but I've just fitted one and haven't driven it yet so I'll report back

Clutch bearing on the top pulley....?

Sorry, I'm not with you.

Mine's a 1.8 and there is only one pulley. I wasn't aware it had a clutch?

Please can you help me understand?
