I'm about to replace my front pads and discs, but can't make my mind up as to which ones from the aftermarket brigade.

Your views are sought regarding EBC or Black Diamond.

Thanks

I've never used black Diamond, but I had EBC fitted on the golf. Standard vented discs all round, standard pads on the rear, greenstuff pads up front.

aside from the fairly excessive dust, they were brilliant, had no trouble stopping it (even with the remap) and I'd use them again. For the price (from ebcdirect), it was a no brainer.

I have been selling Black Diamond for 15 years and would not fit anything else.

how would you rate them against OEM equipment? scores on a scale of 1-10 please.

About 20% better stopping power, 50% shorter pad life (on grooved discs), discs and pads each time rather than pads twice and discs once and not bad dust wise.

What are they like for fade resistance? I drove down 15 miles of country road particularly hard a few weeks ago and could feel the brakes going off towards the end. I don't like brake fade.

Quite good, not so over the top so as to give a poor cold feel and much better with matching Black Diamond 12 groove discs.

I used Black Diamond drilled & grooved discs with Mintex 1144 pads on my MKI Golf GTi 16v for years. Fantastic combination with very little brake dust.

Having never used EBC I cannot comment!

i had grooved and drilled discs on my 306 tdi and green stuff were very good pads, bit confused about the brake dust issue? i had no brake dust at all on my alloys after about 10k miles, i didnt hold back either, regular attempts to get them to fade, in the end i gave up trying, i had rossini discs though, they were a big improvent over standard but metal used wasnt brilliant

Thanks all.

Crasher: according to your man, BD don't do discs for my car (1.9tdi C5).

I've never used Green stuff pads but have heard mixed reports about them when I uprated the front discs and calipers on the Mini I used KAD 4 pot calipers and Vented and grooved discs with mintex pads as I was told the green stuff pads were poor quality really impressed with the set up
