At what sort of mileage should I get this replaced. Sitting at 150k at present, but not sure at what stage it was replaced before.

What's the average sort of price to get it replaced (Mark 3 Golf), and should i buy the belt myself and get the mechanic to fit it?

Cheers

Jay

Every 4 years or 40K on a diesel and every five years or around 75K on a petrol. The price depends on what the engine is, a 2.0 16v is much easier than an 1.9 TDI.

You could pay anywhere from £200 to £400 to have that done depending on how well you want it setting up and the quality of the kit used.

I would change the water pump at the same time well known to fail and you have to take the belt off to do it I know its more expence now but in the long term you will be saving money only an extra £35 to £40 now for the pump from gsf I always change the water pump if it runs of the cam belt

The water pump on all Golf 3 TDI engines (1Z, AHU, ALE and AFN) is external and not driven by the cam belt.
