Got a 2000 1.0 polo engine code AER. very irratic idle, youd think it had misfire.
scanned with solus pro, showing fault code 01087 Basic Setting Not Performed.

throttle housing looked clean, tried throttle adaption with ignition on engine off at normal running temp
started car still the same running like a bag off bolts

Today Replaced engine coolant sensor as not corresponding with dash temp.
removed throttle body cleaned butterfly until spotless relearned adaption, but fault code 01087 constantly there, basic setting not performed signal outside tolerances, when you clear codes, it says cleared but when you go back into codes its still there. when you remove throttle plug it idles okay, when reconnect very irratic again.
As said seems like misfire, but scoped primary and secondry on coil, scoped disrtibutor hall sensor and leads, also injectors all showing okay.
injection juration 3.2ms lambda switching fine.
Was gona put throttle body on next, but its ongoing

just a thought have you checked for a air leak?
check inlet gasket on no1 cylinder
check servo hose as these crack at joints
then try readapting before you fit throttle valve

yip checked for air leaks etc none apparent. cant understand why code is staying constant . even before you restart the code is there.
when you take plugs out 1 + 2 sooty but 3 + 4 normal.

i had this once which is worth a try
disconnect battery and leave off for 25 mins
reconnect and reset basics on throttle valve
