My first car was a Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i CDI, and it was 4 years old when i got it... (it was my Dads old company car, he had it for 3 years, then which my mum ran for a year and it was too big for her... so at the age of 18 I got that and my mum got something a little smaller!!

So i was 18 driving round it a 2.0i Cavlier CDI 8V, (not one of them ECO tech rubbish!!) when every else my age was running little Novas etc!! I slapped a set of 17inch 5 spoke alloys on it, K&N, with jan speed twin pipe box, power boost valve, I tell you what... the power felt quick!! it would do 0-60 in just over 8 seconds......

not bad for a first car!!

This is a harder question for me than it may seem.....

First car i bought was a Fiat Tempra, never actually got to drive it though.

Then i bought a 1 litre turbo (Y90 engine) fiat panda that had 15 inch alloys, twin fabric sun roof, and a bit of a kit on it.
It needed some work doing to the doors to pass an MOT so i only drove it a few times (to the garage, for petrol, quick spin to show my dad etc...) but never actually drove it leagally....

When i got a quote for nearly £400 for work that needed doing to it (apart from the doors), it got scrapped, and the wheels went on ebay.

So the first car i drove leagally was a 1.2 Nova, GTE kit, GTE interior, spoiler, 3rd brake light, 1 off paint job, looked the nuts...

mine was an E reg Mk2 3 door VW Polo 1.0 in red, I loved it, but it was a shed, i paid £100 for it, and had it about a year when the head gasket went so i scrapped it and go £60 back for it. Was a very cheap car to run.
almost all my cars since have been Vw or Audi. Ive come a long way now though, now I have a 2003 Audi A4 3.0 (petrol) Quattro Sport.

1st car was a k-reg peugeot 106 1.4xnd. Had a least 50... yes 50bhp on tap- think the torque was similar- overtaking even trucks often required v careful planning.

Fun little car to get around in- would fill the tank & last for weeks before it need more go-go juice. Driving that car to save my pennies for my golf makes the golf seem all the better.

1968 Land Rover Series 3 double truck cab diesel, paid 400 for it as a non runner with a bit of rot on the bulk head and rear chassis in 2000. Drove it "as was" for a little time then decided to put her in the garage and restore her. She's now my pride and joy "third" car  I'm currently planning some further "revisions" to her, tho my heart says to keep her just as she would have rolled off the forecourt

my first motor was a mistake, it was a mk4 golf gt tdi 150 but unknown to me it had a busted turbo, after about 3 weeks trying to get it sorted i demanded my money back.

i went out and bought another mk4 golf gt tdi 150, second time round went out on a limb and spent 12k on what i like to think is a real pearl`a of a car, my pride and joy !!

the insurance is high but worth it !!

a love hate relationship.

I had a Cavalier 2.0 8v GLS (non Ecotec) multipoint injection. I can confirm that they were indeed a pretty good flying machine. Once managed to squeeze 132mph out of it (on the track of course). I miss it to be honest. Comfy, quick, reliable, cheap to run, cheap to insure etc.

Drove it for years until I discovered the V8 version, so I bought a 3500S which I modified with later engine parts, a 5 speed box and a custom made set of tubular headers.

Looked like a peice of .....ermmm poo, but took off like a scalded cat.

Have since discovered Audi quattros and am hooked.

Twas a Mk IV Cortina estate (or was that a state). 2 tone which was white on the top half and dirt on the bottom half. Came with a unique optional extra of a removable gear stick which had an annoying habit of coming out at the wrong time, soon sorted it with a wire coat hanger and lots of swearing. It finally went to the big scrap heap in the sky when a set of lights turned red but the brakes decided the lights were on green.

The first car I Bought and owned my self in 1957 and it was a 1937 BMW 327 Roadster.. I bought it cheap and restored it.. I was in the Army in Germany. Sold the car a couple years back for a bit more than I payed.. Grin..

However the first car I had was a 1932 Ford 5 window coupe.. However it was in my mothers name.. Some thing about 14 year old kids not being old enough to own a car..

Bet that Ford coupe was a beaut ;)

It was and still is.. My mother bought it from a banker for $300 and it was garage kept and had about 20 thousand miles.. I drove it while in highschool and then it was parked in the barn.. 10 years later I got it out and restored it.. Drove it for some years back and forth to work.. Now my sisters oldest son has it and takes better care of it than I ever did.. It is still complete stock except for the rod ran brakes were replaced with disk brakes in the 70's..

MalcQV
22-03-2007, 01:28 PM
Amazing, it would of struggled to last that long in our damp environment even if stored in a barn. Would probably need a dehumidified garage.

We live in a dry area.. Humidity runs about 16 to 21 percent most of the time.. Cars last for years if kept away from the sun.. And a car body set out for 50 years will last.. But the sun gets to every thing except the steel..

At least 10 of my friends are still driving cars from the 1920's and 1930's.. With the Fords the most common..

MalcQV
22-03-2007, 01:46 PM
I have probably mentioned this before, so sorry if I am being a bore :D. My Pal has a 1970 Charger 500 383ci. The car came to the UK about 3 years ago from California, the body work is superb, no rot, it was repainted 10 years ago but all that has happened to it is the hot sun has cracked/crazed the paint. The interior vinyl, particularly the parcel shelf had suffered too.

Snowdance38
22-03-2007, 01:58 PM
Then you have seen what the sun does.. When I first left this area and went east to where there was high humidity I was shocked to see all the cars rusting.. Many only a few years old had rust holes..

I am one that had room so kept many of my old cars inside for years.. Started selling them about 5 years ago.. Had 32 cars all in top condition.. No rust in any of them.. I sold my 65 Buick Wildcat convert. to a fellow in England.. But he in turn sold it to a fellow in Holland..

MalcQV
22-03-2007, 02:08 PM
32 motors wow!
The older American muscle and older cars are worth quite a bit. The Charger is going up in value. Other people I know have Roadrunners and Challengers all from around the late 60's earlier 70's. All going up in value.

Me I want a 65 Mustang fastback (http://www.65fastbackmustang.com/) or later. The missus is having none of it though :p. The Old Italian stallion has to go first :o. Course I want both!

My old man had no end of Firebirds and TransAms when I was growing up. I loved them and on occasion think about getting one for myself but I know it'd be no end of headaches. Finding them isn't a problem as there's an importer close to where I live.

First car was a Fiesta XR2. Had more rust on it than paint but I loved that motor and thrashed it to within an inch of its life. Really great, fun car, although I was paying a stupid amount on insurance.

Got an XR2i next which was a much better built car, but could never get used to the driving position and you couldn't throw it into corners like the XR2. Gotta say both car's were excellent for reliability, although the bodywork on each was dodgy - typical Fords.

Then moved to London for six years, so no car.

Now I have a 'sensible' MkIV Golf 1.6, which I plan on keeping until I've got my no claims up a bit, then I'll go for something a bit more powerful. Completely converted to Golfs though - love em!

Mine was a (showing my age now) Toyota Starlet old X-Reg - 1.2 but still capable of donuts (in a field, with wet grass, and a tailwind!)

My brother kindly wrote it off while I was away and he replaced it for me with a Renault 19 16v which was the worst car I ever had - £7k to keep it on the road for 18 months (and it only cost £3k!).

Much happier with MK2 GTi 16v and Audi Coupe 2.8 that followed....

Unfortunately it managed to do a pirouette whilst travelling up Blackstone Edge (Yorks/Lancs) with no user intervention (honest :o) and ended up in a ditch.

Even though I bent the chassis quite badly a mechanic friend of mine and I managed to splice the front part of the chassis and bonnet from a Mark 3 Spitfire onto it and it was as good as new :D.

It was a complete sleeper and would eat 2.0 litre Capri's and the like.
Then went,

Together with an assortment of 20 motorcycles from 250 - 1000c.c, predominantly Japanese but a couple of Italian classics in there as well during this time.:D

My first car was an Orion 1.4 L in burgundy. Had lots of rot and used gallons of oil! Never got to drive it legally though.

My first legal car was a G reg Fiesta 1.1LX in radiant red. My that took some abuse! I even tried to blow the engine by driving constantly in 1st gear until it wouldn't rev any higher! Still, it did me good and I've some fond memories but it eventually ended it's life on the scrap heap with 125,000 miles on the clock.

Since then I've owned 4 sierra's, 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, and a mighty D reg 2.8 V6 4x4. That was a stunning car to drive, but a bit thirsty on fuel! I've also owned a 3cyl Suzuki Swift and a Vauxhall Carlton 2.0 auto. I'm now on my current car which is the trusty Golf. Bought it from auction in 2005 for £650. Still going strong today!

My first car was a Mk3 Golf 1.9 CL TDi. That was 2 and a bit years ago. Still got it as my dad uses it to go to London and back every week. Its covered 165K on 2 belt changes an a coolant hose!

Bought an MG ZR 120 Trophy SE (still have as a 2nd car) and finally my Audi A4 1.8T SE S-Line which i purchased 3 weeks ago.

The 2500 Pi had come and gone before I was old enough to drive, bit of a ground breaker in it's day apparently with the Lucas mechanical injection system.
If you read my previous post you'll realise I like straight six engines but I got fed up with paying BMW dealer prices and needed something more economical with the kids. My Passat 1.8T is reasonably smooth just lacks a bit of ooomph, but hopefully that'll be taken care of next week when it's booked in at BBT in Essex for a remap and a couple of other mods.http://www.vwaudiforum.co.uk/forum/images/icons/icon7.gif

mine was a 1982 y reg renault 5 1.1, blue, alloys, sunroof. paid a grand for it and got run off the road by a 40 foot hgv ended up in a flower bed upside down in the centre of bury on market day much to the amusement of the local police in there new sierra cossy. i put it back on the road with a new rack and bottom wish bone the rear torsion bar was twisted on one side so it leaned to one side but still passed an mot the. passengers side wing door and quarter crumpled roof kinked(my girlfriend at the time called it the heap).but i ran it for two years like that and it got me to the scottish highlands four up cases on the roof rack no problem then the clutch went so i scraped it.

First car - 1978 Mini Clubman. Inca Yellow in colour. I thrashed the guts out of it. Came to a premature end one winter's morning when we hit a patch of black ice and ended up on the local golf course. Since then (1986) and now I reckon I've had about 15 cars in total, 4 of which have been Golfs. I now have an A4 Avant

My first car was a VW Camper, White & Orange. Learnt to drive & passed my test in it.
Then Beetle, brief spell with a Renalut 16 (after writing off the beetle), Polo, Golf, Golf, Passat, Audi A4 Avant V6 TDi, and now Audi a6 Avant, Passat for the wife & T4 for work.

Needing to get another A6 as mine is getting on for 240k, bought it with 8k on the clock and is starting to creak abit. Love the new shape A6 but still out of my budget so saving up the pennies & keep on with what I've got for now.

Gearbox started to go around 20 k later, so sold it on, bought a punto for 500 on a private sale, few months later head gasket went. Got rid and bought a Punto GT Turbo.

Best car i've ever had, also the worst I've ever had. :aargh4:

First car I drove (though was Mum's) was a '70 Hillman Avenger 1500. Most interesting moment...thanks to a dodgy catch on the bonnet, it came open at about 50mph, and immediately smacked over the windscreeen, completely obliterating my view of my favourite bit of winding road near my home. Fortunately no harm done, apart from the need to replace the bonnet.

First car I bought myself was a second hand X reg Mini 1000. After the initial acclimatisation to the really high clutch pedal, which meant aching left ankle for a week or two, it was a fun car to bounce around in.

First new car, a black '85 Peugeot 205GTi. Was the most fun car I ever had. On a road I knew well near home I was giving it some up a hill round a right hander, only to see a matter of yards away a parked lorry with driver examining rear wheels. First reaction lifted foot slightly off pedal, so back end let loose - oops - foot back on the gas it gripped and I slipped past the lorry with very little room to spare - I can still see today the terror in that drivers eyes :D

I'm a big boy now, far more sensible (?), though my wife said her 206GTi always came back panting if I was let loose ;)

My first car is my Bora 1.6!

Had to buy something 1.6 or lower as i was 17, and with the same spec golf being much more expensive, Bora was my other option!

Size has never been a problem, as i know many ppl who can only drive around small cars for some reason! But i could easily handle bigger cars.

Have had my Bora for over a year now and have had no regrets...

bought it standard n added a few extras to give it that sporty lookin touch..

I was subjected to owning a B-reg Austin Maestro 1.3L as my first car. It was a lovely cream colour with a chocolate brown interior. At the time, as in 1994, this combo of colours really did make me wanna vomit but ironically enough i've just painted my bedroom in magnolia with a chocolate brown feature wall being that this colour combo is now the height of fashion again!!! It was a great car in fairness as a 1st car, you could sit on your driveway with a Haynes manual, dismantle just about anything & put it back together again without any fuss at all - this was something I often had to do mind you!! I decided at one point to upgrade it and fitted a Peco Powermaster exhaust with a 4x3" oval tail pipe, a pretty loud Sony stereo system, and also MG hubcabs!! I look back now & think I must of looked like a prize tool but at the time I felt like a king!! Funniest thing with the exhaust was it used to knock on the car underside, so being the highly trained budding mechanic/bodger I was I found the ideal solution, wrap a bit of carpet underlay around the bit that was banging & hey presto, no more noise!!! A while later when it went for its MOT the garage decided that a million tubes of Gun Gum & carpet underlay wasnt the idea way to fit an exhaust so they kindly welded it all up for me properly so it wouldnt leak nor bang! Bless my little Maestro, they dont make them like they used to, thankfully!!!

Ah, memories of the stick on heaters for the rear windows come flooding back. If you were lucky enough to apply it and get it working, it would only be a very short time before one of the wires broke or shorted out. Still, what a luxury being able to see out the back occasionally :D

My first car was a B Reg MG Metro. It would do 103mph.

It was metallic black with colour coded bumpers and wing mirrors.

It has red carpets and red seatbelts. It came as standard with a single SU carburettor which I fitted a chrome K&N onto which improved response, fule economy and its sound.

I got a CD player for it straight away so have never had tapes.

I wasn't looking for an MG I wanted a Nova SR but could not find one at the right price, so settled for the MG.

It cost me loads of money to keep it passing through MOT's. I ended up selling it for £200.

I then got my SR that I was desperate for. That was a B Reg as well, I loved it, but then it too got a bit old and expensive to run. It was Silver with a brown Recaro checked interior.

I fitted a Moss Alarm to both of these cars and would always change my brake pads myself.

I then got a H Reg Red SR 1.4 which I loved again.
Then a Silver N Reg MX3 V6
Then a N Reg Golf MKIII 8v in Metallic Grey
Then forced to sell the golf for a A Stupid company car: Renault Laguna II 1.9DCi 125Bhp - always went wrong.
And now my excellent Black A3 170bhp

Sorry to waffle on and on about them all.

First car I drove having passed my test was mum's 0.9 (!) Fiat Cinquecento (in glorious faded red). Okay, so the handbrake didn't work and the gear lever came off the stick several times on the A30 Hayle roundabout. It may not have exceeded 75mph on level ground, but it was sooo economical and *ahem* easy to park!

I then 'graduated' to my other half's 1.2 M-reg Corsa which felt like a sports car compared to the Fiat. However a revolting shade of burgundy and neverending issues with the engine fading and cutting out at roundabouts meeans she's welcome to the darn thing!

So in August, as I admired my pitiful bank balance and considered selling a kidney for my immminent-at-the-time move to Uni...I decided to BUY A CAR! A 1.8 Mk3 Golf, as a 20 year old, with just a year's driving experience....sensible eh!!

The car's with me here in Bangor now. It's lovely... Okay, so the auto gearbox isn't exactly ideal and it's sluggish on the A5 through Snowdonia, but it looks nice and it's pretty pacey on the more open road.

Aaaaaaahhhhhh... :-)

An extremely eccentric 1980-something 950cc Mini Mayfair Automatic. It started 37% of the time and once got involved in a race with a Ford Transit through Upminster in Essex at 3am (I was being chased by an irate white-van man - I was young and foolish).

That was a 'fun' car. Turned on a sixpence, especially the way I drove it. Got £50 scrap for it in the end and went to have a drink on the Mini.

A 1961 Morris Mini, think it had an 850cc motor, with a gear stick that must have been at least 1m long. Drove it to Spain when it was 11yrs old on a whim. Couldn't get it over 45 mph with 2 passengers & all our camping gear! Took 3 days to get there.

:biglaugh: Hah, everyone seems to either have had something quite cool or now considered a classic or with a resonable engine........ but no, not me.... but it got me around and I didnt care as I couldnt afford anything else......... it was a...................... 1977 rust bucket of a Polo which was bright yellow with a massive 950, or was or was 898cc engine which did about 70mph flat out if you were going downhill with the wind. It was 10 years old, though I was only 17 and it was legally on the road.......just!

didnt put me off as I'm still driving VW's.

At the age of 18 my Second Car was an AX GT and I crashed it in to the bank (The mud one not the one that keeps my money), then a telegraph pole, then a tree, then another tree etc etc

I asked the policeman who was taking down my details if it was a write-off, he said yes.

My first VW was a 411L (as in "four-eleven L"). Some say the 4 was because it was the first VW with 4 doors, and the 11 because it was 11 years too late. Hands up anyone who's ever seen one :o

Yeahbut now you have a Ferrari and all I can afford is a Capri so we're even :D

Out of all the cars I've driven or been driven in, that Capri is the one that has always stuck in my head. I'd never heard a noise like it before, or experienced the power. Obviously there are now much faster, more powerful cars around, but at the time it blew me away.

Irony is that I also loved the Ford Mustang, but even as a kid I was "realistic" in that Lambos, Ferraris and Mustangs would probably be out of my reach :D. Mind you anyone can afford to put a Ferrari like the one I have in their garage. I admit my maintenance costs might be a bit steep, but you can do all the maintenance on them yourself and save quite a bit ;)

I do still have a 2.8i but i`m currently breaking it for spare and also selling all the panels and parts i`ve built up over the years as i dont plan on going back to capris, and it`s a waste having all the stuff laid about not getting used.

Going from having owned that may Capri's to deciding they're a waste of time must have been quite a change!
That reminds me of a friend of my Dad's who used to be a agricultural equipment engineer and collected pieces of machineery. His garden had various pieces in it and he had the inside of his house like a shrine with various posters, books and magazines. One day, my Dad went round to visit him and all the stuff had gone from the bloke's house, and he was sat in the kitchen blowing air out of the window. Turns out he was an ex-tractor fan.

Wow this brings back memories... I had a 1990 H (i think) Astra GTE, red with full kit, and one of those digital dashes that you now see in people carriers... 4 year old when I got my mits on it and I tinted the windows, lowered it, put in two amps, a boom box and a couple of 6x9's on the back shelf i could here it the other side of the B&Q car park which was long enough to race to 60mph on before slamming the anchors on...and we used to pull handbrake doughnuts all night while feasting on McDonalds and KFC.... haw haw - great time... the rozzers had me everynight with a producer but I actually got to know some of them quite well and they used to pull me over for a chat and a look at the car more than anything... I was always legal so never had any worries... Yes... I was a proper boy racer all those years ago at the height of the hot hatch... our group had Nove GTE's, Pug 205 1.9GTI's Golf Mk1 and Mk2 GTI's the lot... The Pugs always won...B@stardo's

Then it got nicked. I got 4 grand and went and bought a sensible boring Seat IBIZA with VW plastered all over the engine...

Mine was a Mk2 Cavalier 1.3L which cost £230 from a salvage yard (stolen recovered). I was dead chuffed with it at the time and fixed it up really nicely, new ignition barrel and door locks and sorted out the paint. I did it up to look like an SRi but badged it as an SR. Looked the nuts and drove really well, but then with 150k on the clock it started to fall to bits. To be fair I did drive the poor thing half to death, it had 2 gear boxes, 2 clutches, 3 driveshafts, a starter, a couple of alternators and a whole load of other bits and bobs.

After that I went to owning Fords and stayed with them for almost 10 years.

Hehe reading these makes me feel old!!!!

My first was a 1977 Yellow Vauxhall Cavalier, 1.6 4 dr saloon at the tender age of 17.....it was my "custard coloured pashion wagon"......for about 24 hrs - engine exploded doing 80!

3 months waiting for a recon engine and then had roughly 2 weeks trouble free posing/pimping/thrashing it - then lost an argument with a mountain crash barrier in the Lake District (ouch).

Swapped it for a Manta which lasted a couple of months before that engine went boom too......learnt my lesson with Vauxhalls after that.

Memories!

XR2, got it three daysafter passing my test. All in all I was pretty lucky to not write it off on the A361 on a good few occassions. The bloody thing turned into a nightmare though. The sunroof blew, raining glass on me whilst driving, the alloys were done after they started seeping tyre pressure all the time, the ignition failed everytime it rained which to ages to sort because it worked perfectly everytime it was taken to a garage to get sorted, a fool changed lanes on the M1 without looking properly and left me with a dent in the rear quarter (£480 to sort), then the cam belt went at 20k miles since last one (£650). Loved the car every time I drove it but the bills had me reeling, then the insurance groups were changed the system in use today and the insurance went from £460 to £1100 in one day:zx11:
Time for a change, I was still gutted.

Left the company, bought the car for peanuts but then realised how much the insurance was going to be so bought a Citroen Saxo 1.1 X

So i was 18 driving round it a 2.0i Cavlier CDI 8V, (not one of them ECO tech rubbish!!) when every else my age was running little Novas etc!! I slapped a set of 17inch 5 spoke alloys on it, K&N, with janspeed twin pipe box, power boost valve, I tell you what... the power felt quick!! it would do 0-60 in just over 8 seconds......

not bad for a first car!!

Ahhhhhhhhhh it takes me back !

I picked up my 92 Civic from the docks in 1999. It got towed to an uncles farm in Limerick and kept there for one year whilst I learnt how to drive in my mothers Fiat Sciencto.... I wrote that off when I hit a dog... Basically, I hit a dog in it, The radiator pressed into the fan which was electric. Fan tried to turn, couldnt as the radiator was blocking it, instead of the fan blowing a fuse it kept going until it burnt out and well the rest of it is self explanitory. Brought the civic back up to Dublin and did my test and drove her up until the 7th of Jan 2003 when I got rear ended at traffic lights by an Isuzu flat back truck. Civic was destroyed so with a few bob from my sore neck ( which was genuine ) and the proceeds of my cars worth valued by a stealing Insurance company, I got my Fabia. That died on me in December 06 so I moved onto my gorgeous Wagon which I will never ever stop driving until she coughs pukes and dies !

My life according to me ! :)

In the end, I couldn't get the car trough it's MOT anymore due to the state of the body work. The engine got transferred into a VW Polo MK1 (basically the same car as the Audi 50) and ran for a few more years.

My second car was a 1985 Audi Sport Quattro S1 but I only made two trips with it. The first one was from the garage where I bought it from to my home. After My dad inspected the car for about 10 seconds and saw that the roll-cage was still fitted, he made me make my second trip with it... staight back to where I bough it from with instuctions to hand it back... (lol).

1st car was a 1977 Datsun F11 coupe!! Black ,alloy wheels and a white vinyl roof....thought it was the dogs danglies...right up until I hit a pot hole in the road and the wheel came off!! :D

Then inherited my grandpa's one owner 1967 Type 1...kept this for the next 12 years as my main drive until the resto job I'd had done on it failed within a year.....still got the reg on my beemer tho'.

then a jap period an MX5 and various scooby's

now back to german with a Z3 and a 93 8v GTi with only 36K on the clock (and more importantly the FSH to back it up)!!

My first car was an X reg MK1 Golf CL, that I was given when I was 14! I stripped the engine to bits and rebuilt it and eventually sold it to someone inh my woodwork class at school!

I then bought a MK1 Driver A reg and started a massive project that I ended up not finishing. Had bodykit, racing engine and BMW dash conversion (professionaly built dial pods ) ........after all that I couldnt afford to paint the car and ended up selling it off for parts! I was still at school!

Oh the days of playing with cars!

I am not one to modify these days.

I slapped a set of 17inch 5 spoke alloys on it, K&N, with janspeed twin pipe box, power boost valve, I tell you what... the power felt quick!! it would do 0-60 in just over 8 seconds......

not bad for a first car!!

my first car was a mk 5 cortina 2.0 dont remember what model, (gl ect)that was belong to my mates dad. it was prob a heap but at the time it was my baby, and it could shift. it was never legal though as i couldnt afford the insurance so only drove until the tax ran out and sold it on again. would love to get my hands on another now though. i was only 17 when i had it and am in my thirties now and would pro b miss a mortgage payment to get hold of a good one. miss's is behind me saying im talking like a seventeen year old now.oh dear!

My first car was an H reg Peugeot 205 1.1. I fitted Saxo VTR alloys to it, Panasonic CD Headunit, full component speaker system, 2x 8" subwoofers and a Straight through Ashley exhaust. It was that loud that my dad could here me start it up about half a mile away. I ended up crashing it but thats another story.
My next car a white G reg Fiat 126 BIS. Fitted a Kenwood headunit and a 10" subwoofer!
Then i bought an N reg 1.1L Fiesta for £350 and spent £300 to get it through its MOT
Next was an S reg Fiesta Ghia x. I fitted this with a straight through 3" exhaust. It sounded sweet!
I decided i wanted something bigger so i sold the Fiesta for a Volvo S40 2.0. I had nothing but problems with it so i part-ex it for a 54 plate Yaris 1.0 T3. After owning it for 8 months i got bored with it because it was so under powered after driving the Volvo so i went to my local garage where i saw a 04 plate Mondeo and 03 plate Passat. After test driving both i decided on the Passat and this is the current car i own. I must say im very happy with it.

Exactly like that. Same spec with red interior etc. But mine had reg plate NKU 532. I am sure it's dead. It was on it's last legs when I parted company. It was full of rust, you could see the road as you were driving. You always needed a decent MOT man who you were mates with. :D

Central locking,
Electric Windows,
Alarm
Remote start, inc tricky immobiliser wiring
And interface box which tied the alarm in with the c/l and e/w.

and i also stuck a spoiler from a ford escort (mk6/7) on it.

All you young fellas out there!
My first car was a 1937 Standard 10 bought in1952. It was almost impossible to get new cars then and none had been made for public sale during the war, spares too were very difficult to get hold of.

On one occasion while driving to work I smelled smoke. One of my passengers had managed to drop a fag end down beside the window and set fire to the wooden frame! Fortunately there was not much air circulation within the door cavity so the fire burned slowly and I managed to put it out by pouring in water from a lemonade bottle.

Let's stretch the thread a bit.My Dad's first car (and the first car I remember going in) was a 1932 Morris Cowley bought from our next door neighbour in 1934 when I was 6.Dad had never driven a car before so the neighbour gave him a 5 minute demonstration of how things worked and off he went solo. Things went reasonably well until he came to a junction on quite a steep hill (what used to be Gates corner in Woodford) and had to work out for himself how to do a hill start. He never took a normal driving test but when the Advanced Motorist scheme came in he took their test and passed with no problem. On his return from RAF service in Egypt Dad taught me to drive, giving me my first lesson on my 17th birthday. I too have never taken a driving test for a car (I have for a motorcycle), tests were suspended during the war and there was such a backlog when they started again that those who had held a provisional license for 3 years were given a full license.I drive an A4 2.4 Tiptronic (2000 vintage). You may have worked it out, I am 80 now.

My dad's first car was a Morris van. We have pics of it but I do not remember it. The first one I remember was a 60 something red Mini 850. The only car he bought brand new. My mum, dad, brother, grandma, me and the dog went from Manchester to Ilfracombe when the motorway stopped at Birmingham for annual holidays.

Those were the days :D.

This car was followed by a MkI 1500 tina estate, then a MkIII 2000 Tina estate which he only sold in about 2000. He also built and owned a Locust kit car (Lotus 7 copy) whilst owning the MKIII Tina. He now owns two Minis. Talk about full turn :p

7 cars and two motorbikes. He passed his bike test at 17 I think and is now 76.

My first car was a Triang pedal car!!:beerchug:But Really was a Ford 300e van.. Towed a caravan with it from Enfield to Plymouth. About 225 mils. The van had a 4 and a half gallon tank and it was doing 15 to the gallon with the caravan, we stopped every 55 mls to fill up. A lot of people say that they don't make cars like they used to. I say Bloody good job! Just remember cars like the Allegro, Talbot Tolaro, Marina,Ambassador. Yugo, Lada and thank your lucky stars we have cars that stay in one piece longer than the MOT!
