The clutch made a loud bang and the car does not drive although the engine runs and the gears can be selected. The RAC man who recovered the vehicle thinks it is the clutch. We have decided to have a go ourselves with the help of a friend with garage experience but not on the Audi 80. We are also getting ourselves a Haynes manual. Can anyone give us any tips or advice on things to be aware of when doing this job. To have the car fixed in a garage and put through its MOT (now due) would cost more than the car is worth but we are reluctant to scrap it as it looks and did drive well. Many thanks in advance.

Check the drive shafts before working on gearbox.
If you have to remove gearbox. Haynes Manual for Audi A6/100 is useful. Not a very difficult job
