Who would people recommend? I rang Chris Knott insurance, and whilst they were exceptionally polite and helpful, they couldn't do anything better than my current renewal with elephant.

Who do you insure with?

I use direct line, but that's because my wife uses them and I got an extra discount. I was with E-sure, but had a no-fault accident 1 week before renewal. Can you believe they quoted 150 more than DL and wouldn't give me an indication for the reduction, conce the claim is settle completely. DL will refund £30 when it is.

I find insurance compaines a PITA :(

PS I forgot to ring Chris Knot...must of been the whiplash :(

I use Tesco

DL & Tesco both quoted around £1300 last night, Elephants renewal will be somewhere around £1000.

I'm considering suing the cyclist that rode into me in 2007 and claimed on my insurance. :zx11:

I have no excuse for the 3 points I got in 2005. That was sheer stupidity on my part. :(

Bell are quite good if you are like me and have zero no claims (I was driving on other insurance for 6 years, 2 on my parents and 4 on company car)

Renewed with the Post Office for the Polo - very helpful and although inital internet search prices were cheaper, when comparing like for like, there was no difference.
The Passat is insured for the wife with Swift Cover this can be a pain for renewing car tax in the post office as they won't accept a print out of the insurance doc - so renew on line.
Also when recieved new policy quote we found that online Swift Cover were cheaper. Rang them up but they wouldn't revise the new policy quote - so cancelled policy and renewed online (daft or what!!!) but we made a saving.
Moral is to shop around for the level of cover you require and never believe without checking your existing insurer.

My advice also. You can sometimes haggle with your existing insurer if you have got a better quote elsewhere. Sometimes they will match another quote (but not always).

I am now back on the Co Car insurance, however i insured a golf for a year with Tesco and they let me pass on four years claim free Co Car driving, i just had to get a letter to confirm accident free for four years from our MD and they gave me a no claims discount.

Its always worth asking

I used comparethemarket.com and went for LV online.

I was already with LV, but by doing it online the price was £150 cheaper! :p

I also tried Chris Knott, but they couldn't match it. Really polite and helpful though, they're worth a call every time.

Oh forgot to mention. :Blush2:

With LV my insurance quote was ~£240 fully comp. Having said that, I do have maximum no claims, and the wife is on as a named driver.

Not bad for a group 14 car!

Mini Mark
25-02-2009, 09:47 AM
My insurance for the Mini £415 if I rember right (inc salvage rights, track day cover 3 other named drivers)is through herts as they were the only ones who would give me an agreed value at the value I wanted on the mini, tried them for the golf to much money.

Also tried chris knott and they were very helpful but in the end I insured it though the brokers we use at work as they were a lot cheaper and the mirrored my 5 years no claims on the mini too

Herts were nice, but useless. Refused to honour my 1 years no claims bonus because it's on a 10 month bonus accelerator from elephant.

Ended up coming out at over £1600. :zx11:

surely that ought not to matter, I was under the impression the issuing insurance company gave you a certificate for 12 months NCB?

Correct, maybe it wasn't a year before he changed, which is fair enough, i cancel an insurance 3 days before the end once and they wouldn't give me ayears no claims certificate :zx11:

Nope, I was very clear about my renewal date. I will have done the full 10 months. They knew about the scheme I was on when they asked who I was with and I said Elephant. Seems not everyone honours it.

RAC did that last time I was with elephant and switched, but then I'd never go back to RAC, they were the ones who told me not to bother going to court when the cyclist hit me and claimed on my insurance.

(Can you tell this is not a happy thread for me? :D)

I'm with chris knott.

Having declared all mods on the car and the remap (all documented on this forum) including 6 points, (3 speeding 3 mobile phone). I was pleased to learn that with chris knott, my insurance premium came down, compared to the company i was with prior.

Its due again in april.

Wouldn't touch AIG, been with them, never again, You just try adding someone on to your police for just a week, they can't do it, i would have had to start a fresh policey for the year at a vastly increased cost.

DO NOT USE AIG.

I'm pleased to report that my renewal for elephant has come through in the post and it's £968.00

Could be worse, just gotta see if anyone loves me enough to offer me better!

blimy, have you tried confused.com yet? big moneysaver is that site, still, adrian flux and chriss knott still beat them all in my case.

To be honest I think i'm not in a great position.

24 years old.
Driving since 19
Live in South London
Park the car on the street
3 points on my liscence in 12/2005
Accident that was allegedly my fault with a personal injurty claim 10/2007
Only owned this car since 10/2008 so i'm 'inexperienced'...

All adds up to a hefty bill

Unless i'm missing something?

Edit: Confused.com just gave a best price of elephant at £844
Edit2: Moneysupermarket just gave me a best price of Admiral at £733
