I was interested to hear members views re "Golf GTI MkIV Cambelt Change,recently,& would lik to hear opinions on my main dealers comments after yearly service,with only 36000 miles on the clock ( Polo 1.4 SE ) SIX (6) years old Jan 2006...They state the Cambelt & Tensioner is DUE to be replaced ?????...Cost by the way £ 256.......What say you ????,,,,,Geminus.

Hi

I do know that on a few of the VAG engines, they have dropped the interval on cambelt changes. Although £256 may sounds a lot of money, it may be a small cost, compared to the damage it may cause if it breaks:(
To confirm that your dealer is telling the truth, speak to another dealer, and give them the engine code, they should tell you when it needs to be changed.
