Hi - I have just bought a 2003 A4 1.8T sport multitronic with 86k on the clock. The car has not been run for some time (5 months), and is covered by a 12month warranty from the garage (across the road from my house).
When I looked around the vehicle and test drove it there were some creamy white deposits on the oil dipstick - I was told this can happen with these engines if they have not been run for some time, and so to run it for a couple of weeks and then return it for a oil and filter change (I have only had the car a week at present)
I have now noticed the exhausts are smoking a little and I suspect the car is burning a little oil, also the coolant level was very low - I have topped it up and am keeping an eye on it over the next few days.
Can anyone advise if the above is true, and that it is simply that the car has been stood, I am obviously a little worried in case there may be a more serious problem with the head gasket or something?!!! Cheers

Hello,

I wanted to inform you with good news, this is absolutely correct. Due to the car being parker for 5 months your car has developed a creamy deposit.

My brother had to park his BMW 330CI for about 2 weeks in the car park, when he came back he had the same problem. So he want to his BMW Specialist where he was told that it is nothing serious, it is because the car has been parked for sometime which caused the creamy deposit. Also it was developing white/blue smoke and now it is perfectly fine. All you need to do is put some Oil Treatment in your engine and all should be perfectly back to normal and have a little spin in your car.

Hope this helps.

As Zeb, it's quite normal, mine does it when not used for a short period of time especialy in cold damp spells.

Its caused by moisture getting in the oil, can occur as discussed when stood up for a bit or if only driven on a regular basis on very short journeys that dont allow the engine to get up to full working temp'
