I want to buy a new set of ignition coils for my 05 A4 1.8T 163bhp cabrio with engine code BFB. But which ones? - I've seen a set of genuine ones (06B 905 115R) for £94 but are these rubbish - are there better or are they all the same as long as they are compatible??? Thanks

The "R" revision ones are the latest and will be deemed to be the most reliable

Great, I kind of hope the new coils help with the surging acceleration problem...

Surely the coil either works 100% or 0%

Being a coil it will either be a circuit or a broken circuit

My wife phoned me up this afternoon to say the car has started juddering badly and the emissions light is coming on.... Bit of a coincidence eh! So I pulled all the coil packs when she got home and only one is an 'R' the rest are 'N', so they all get replaced with 'R's as soon as my new coils arrive - tomorrow hopefully! I assume it's safe to drive 25 miles if I'm careful?

I would say no way, all the unburnt fuel will get through and wreck your Catalytic Converter, 25 miles is a long way juddering at 10 mph

I am no way an expert, but when it happened to me I didnt want to move a muscle, got it recovered straight away

Ah, got your reply a bit late. Drove the car and now the cat is ruined! ...Just kidding - I drove it very carefully without using the accererator much and had the faulty ignition coil replaced while having a service at the garage. Also replaced the other old coils and now my car runs perfectly - horray! :D

Seeing as you didn't have a problem at the beginning, does your car run better than before ??

I did have a problem but I thought it was the turbo boost sensor.... (see my other 'turbo power delivery problem' thread.

Hi All - I had the same problem last week - fitted two coils by QX Components Ltd, one was faulty (Rubbish). Fitted 4 OEM 06B 905 115 R, the car is now perfect.
