catalytic converter

anyone know anything about replacing em?

i can scource one for £150 but fitting it isnt straight forward by the looks!
i recently had the manifold off to replace a stripped o2 senser(yes the manifold) and other parts like the intake system just to get to it.
now heres the problem i noticed whilst doing that, the cat hits the cross member before it clears the studs in the manifold so wont drop right off.
i reckon if i jack the engine up a bit it will clear them but from what i remember, theres no way of getting it off without dropping the subframe first.
problem is, to remove the subframe, the drive shafts, steering rack, suspension blah blah all need removing aswell.
someone tell me it will feed through the cross member with a bit jiggling and i dont need th touch the subframe http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/Smileys/modern/embarassed.gif
or maybe i can drop he subframe with everything still in tact?
