I've been having problems with my car and all the symptoms seem to down to the comfort control module. I got it out on the weekend but it all seemed good and no sign of water. When I went into vag com I noticed the code for the module was 00000 and so was the workshop code. I read that sometimes if the battery gets too low (which it has) the codes can get wiped, is there any truth to this? If so, does anyone know how to find out the original code?

The workshop code is not important, a 2004 8E chassis A4 I did today had control unit 8E0 959 433 BC and coding value 06859. VCDS has a coding table help function.

Thanks very much, i tried putting that code in using the vag com put it's not working, it just reselts to 00000. Doest that mean that it's the codule itself? can i just pop in a replacement?

That should go in so it looks like the unit is faulty. A new unit should code up easily.

If the numbers are compatible, that is OK.

They are version differentiation letters.

Convenience modules and their coding letters even make my local TPS’s ears bleed trying to work them out. The best I can say is if you give me the part number of the one in the car and the part number of the one you can get, I will try and tell you if it will work or can be coded it.

Thanks very much, mine is 8E0 959 433 AL and I can get:
8E0 959 433 T
8E0 959 433 BJ
8E0 959 433 BL

8E0 959 433 AL has changed to 8E0 959 433 AJ which can also replace the 8E0 959 433 AK and 8E0 959 433 AH and these are for 2001 to early 2003 so you should be able to use any of these four and are for the 433.92 to 434.42 MHZ remote frequency.

The 8E0 959 433 T is for a 315 MHZ system

8E0 959 433 BJ changed to 8E0 959 433 BK and then 8E0 959 433 BS and then to 8E0 959 433 CF and these are for 2005 onwards cars.

8E0 959 433 BL went to 8E0 959 433 BT and then to 8E0 959 433 CG and is for 2005 to 2007.

My head hurts now; I think I need to lie down…

Thanks a lot for this info, you don't know anywhere I can get a compatible one do you? Having a nightmare trying to find one.

I checked with my friend Tony at Nottingham VW Audi Breakers (01159791121) and he doesn’t have any of those four numbers that I think will do the job. You will struggle to find one second hand as the demand is so high due to water damage.

sorry to be a pain again, I've just managed to fink one ending in AK, do you know if that will drop straight in or will in need coding still? Cheers
