I bought a 1994 Audi estate this morning - 2.0 litre. The guy seemed really genuine, and since I've had a problem he has actually offered to buy the car back from me if I wasn't happy so I'm guessing he's for real.
The problem is, I drove the car home with absolutely no problems - about 25 miles in total. I parked up, got the kids seats in, loaded up the dog and started the car only to find that sometimes when I accelerated the power just wasn't there.
Unfortunately we have a huge brae outside our drive and it took me an eternity to drive just a short distance. I phoned the seller and he told me he'd had this problem, but only about 3 times in the last 18 months and I should simply turn the engine off and start again - this was apparently what the previous owner had told him - although he has owned the car for over 2 years and had it serviced fairly regularly - a big one only 10,000 miles ago. The car only has 97,000 on it.
It was about 2 hours later that I got the kids settled that I was able to go and try it and right enough, it drove like a dream. I pulled up at the side of the road, engine still running, and did a 3 point turn. At that point the car started doing exactly the same as it had earlier. It runs for maybe 30 seconds, then the power starts to dip and if I dip the clutch I can get a bit more acceleration and lift the clutch to get going again but there's definitely something not right.
Has anybody else had this problem and if so please can you let me know what I should do. I don't mind spending a couple of hundred on the car - I got it for a good price but I don't want to start a whole load of work which will be neverending...
