1998 Audi Avant Central Locking Problem

Hi

I seem to have the common problem with my Central Locking Pump - the disc inside the pump has disintegrated. As my pump is the 8LO 862 257 G which is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get hold of, can I purchase another pump with the same number but different ending letter (I've seen A and J on site's like ebay) and swap the discs or is there some fundamental difference between pumps that will make this operation impossible?
