View Full Version : Please Help Mk5 2.0SDI hum at 70+mph

My sister's Mk5 2.0 SDI has a confusing problem.

As soon as you get to 70mph or above, there's an intermittent but regular hum. (From the front, I think.) Doesn't sound like anything I've heard before. It's not clunk or a rattle; it doesn't stop when steering left or right; all the wheels have been balanced; Garage have said they can't find anything wrong with the wheels or suspension, but they haven't been able to drive it above 50mph.

If you can imagine, it sounds a bit like driving through 50yds of very shallow surface water every 100yds or so. fffFFFFffff... fffFFFFffff... fffFFFFffff...

Doesn't seem to be affecting drag, but it's still very disconcerting. Any ideas???

get your garage to recheck the tyres ive had alot distort on the mk5

I'll mention that to her but she said they're four new tyres, the balancing was done when they were fitted. Tracking feels good when driving.
