View Full Version : Fault Codes after flat battery?

I got my car back from a bodyshop after some repairs but I found an oil leak so I ran a quick check on a code reader and I came up with 5 new fault codes that I hadn't seen before. While it was being repaired the battery ran flat in the garage over xmas - so i was wondering, could these codes have been cleared by the previous owner and only just came back when the power went? Or are these all likely to be new codes that have developed since having the car back?

Cheers,

Mark

Oh yes. pardon me.....:D only got the VAG codes for 1 or 2 of them as i used my mate's reader. Here goes.....

020A - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
VAG 01282 - 0502 - Intake Manifold Flap Ch Over Valve N239
46AO - This doesnt show up on any list but i was told it could be battery
VAG 01318 Control Module for injection pump (J399) This one scares me as from what i've read it can be pricey if the pump packs in.
VAG 17978 - 463A - Engine Control Unit Blocked - Been advised that this is the immobiliser, linked with the battery going flat.

Odd thing is the car drives 100% apart from a small oil leak and none of the codes were showing at all until the battery went flat. (or the week following)

Oh yes, and what the engine is but it sounds to me that a code read, print and clear with a proper code reader and then drive the car followed by another read would be the best idea before panicking yourself.

Cheers, it's a 2002 V6 2.5tdi 180 - I cleared the faults the other day but haven't plugged it back in to check again yet. From your post i take it that if the faults persist they will come back after they've been cleared but if they don't come back then not to worry?

Yes, basically if they have gone, don’t worry.

So after having my oil leak sorted and driving for a few hours, i plugged back in and all codes had cleared - except.......
020A Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor - which is fairly self explanitory.

and also had a new one.....

055F - Engine Mounting Valve Stage 1 Engine mount valve.

Any ideas on this one?

New engine mount (but check the wiring first) and a new coolant temp sender but I don’t recognise those fault code numbers, they are not VAG or P codes.

The codes are just from a diagnostic code reader. There is a way to translate them to VAG codes but i forget the website.

Thanks again
