Audi A3 (8P) 2.0 TDi (170) - 2007 model

I did a VagCom check prior to fitting a RNS-E upgrade to the car – all was ok with no faults.

Once the unit was installed, I coded it to the vehicle & and all worked well.

After completion of the work another VagCom check for faults was done – this time however, 3 controller faults were apparent.

19 CAN Gateway – Status malfunction 0010
2 faults found
01044 – Control module incorrectly coded
000

01304 – Radio
004 – No signal/communication – intermittent

37 Navigation – Status Not Registered 0011
1 fault found
00858 – Connection; Radio ZF output to antenna amplifier
007 – Short to ground

56 Radio – Status malfunction 1010
1 fault found
00858 – Connection; Radio ZF output to antenna amplifier
007 – Short to ground

I then removed the upgrade and fitted the original radio – the VagCom check still shows the same faults with the upgrade removed, even though I cleared the DTC’s prior to the scan.

Re-installing the RNS-E still gives the same faults as detailed above.

Can anyone advise where I have gone wrong – I’m more concerned with the CAN coding as it is showing a priority 1 fault level.
Current CAN coding is: 3F3F03C207002103
Current RNS-E code: 0205711.
How do I get the Navigation registered?

Thanks for your time.

You need to re-code the RNS-E to your car, taking into account the options your car has. you also need to re-code the CAN gateway so that the car knows it now has RNS-E instead of concert radio.

VAG-COM/VCDS should show you the possibel coding options.

Thank you for the pointer, problem solved – The CAN controller needed the ‘navigation check box’ ticking – so that fault has now disappeared.

Regarding the ZF shorting to ground problem, I believe that it is a known fault when upgrading to the RNS-E – something to do with the diversity antenna; I can live with that though as it has not impaired the radio reception in any way.
