Hi all,

I need the see the coding value for the golf passenger door controller. I've put a new one in and a new loom and alls working accept the passenger window switch, works form the drivers side only. I think it maybe coding??

I tried a separate loom for the switch and tested the switch in a different position on the car...so I'm at a loss :(

I don't have original one as it was trashed current coding i have is 692 as per the label file in VCDS.

Options look on your pc for any old logs for yor car and copy the code, take to the dealer and they will apply online code to configure as the door control units need to be coded to left/right also make sure the part index number is the same and the sw version is the same as this may cause conflict.Check measured values to see if the window switch status reflects which way your operating the button.

Hi A8_tech

the old controller is fubarred.....:( I bought the car as a flood damaged cat c. have fixed most stuff, just this left.

I have a proper cable now so should be able to fix most things :).

The code I'm using is

+0000004 = Mirror Turn Signals
+0000016 = Automatic Run active
+0000032 = Mirror Heater installed
+0000128 = 5-Door Chassis
+0000512 = Right Hand Steering

which is 692 ...the controller is a 1k0 959 792 J the original is a 1k0 959 792 G

So now drawing shorts straws...not sure which way forward ?????

If I could see some one else codes for there mk5 would be a help...;)

check the control number of the drivers side with vcds and if they differ check Etka for compatibility as this may be the issue more than the code (code seems spot on)as once the code is entered it should change it to passenger as this sounds like it thinks it the drivers side. You will suss it onzy baby.Best Regards A8

Thanks A8 I was going mad thinking it could be a cable fault etc, so looks like its the computer side......that should be fun to fix. :)

Thanks for the advice

which suggests the coding is correct, I didn't recode the controller just plugged it in, do I need to do an adaption to get it to work?

a8 tech

no,try swapping the drivers with the passengers and recode them.Onzy have you checked the measured values to check the switch is working the right way around as normally when the motor are coded incorrectly the go down for up and visa versa. Its one of those jobs i need to be there to help

I did try and check the switch, but i can't find which measuring block it is, its not in the label file

Hope that helps a little.

Your welcome to pop round, I'll put the kettle on:D:biglaugh:

I would say the two control units differ as the drivers is min 2 and the passenger is min 3 which means there different generations and this is the likely communication error between the two, anyway check measured value block 1 for the switch operation.
Ask your Vw dealer if they can configure the two differing generations via online software change,i don't deal with many mk 5 and Audi still allows manual coding where as Vw code online from the server which calculates the code for the tech (thick vw techs lol)

sorry just edited above but yes you need two control units both min 2 for this vehicle or the dealer needs to configure the two if possible. The drivers door is the master for the passenger and that's min2 so you need min2 for the passenger side also.If that makes sense but as i say Audi and vw are different in more ways than you think and especially with electrics and networks.I would have thought there may have been more members answering this thread as there all curbside experts lol love it ha ha.Going to bed but i will ask one of the VW lads who works with me,but don't count on a good answer cause hes thick as

been and done it out in Onza's workshop LOL

when I press the passenger button...nothing

when I press the passenger button on the drivers side....pass window moves....wr button (E81) changes...thats the drivers side?

when I press the drivers window button... drivers window moves....no indication given on screen.

So does that seem like the controllers don't know left from right???

It means the two door control units arnt compatable for the switch commands and i think you need to got to vw parts and look at etka to establish the correct pasenger control unit to match the drivers.Off you pop and report back for the next step:biglaugh:

Well I determined to sort this myself, mainly because I'm a tight fisted Cornishman!!!

Right back to the problem. My passenger door controller was junk, so I chnged it for another. all works but the PAssenger window switch, loom and switch have been tested.

I have today tried the Driver door controller that the passenger one came from. That didn't help, all control when out the window, so bcak to the original and 1 switch not working.

Does anyone know how to code in a driver controller are they matched to the CCU?

A8Tech I know if this was an Audi it would be fixed, We need the fine detail from a VW tech on this specific issue, Hopefully A8's comment earlier will spur someone into action :P

I have the 1K0 959 701M from the drivers side, but then nothing worked. This maybe down to a coding procedure, even though when I checked it was 692 the same as for the other controller.

Hi part nr 1ko959701k is for the left front door.part nr 1ko959702m is for the right front door.According to the protocol the units are on the wrong side.I take it that this is a RHD vehiclle? The units that are on your vehicle have the readings of a LHD

The drivers side is correct for the car, never been changed, the car is right hand drive.

Now for the strange bit, the car is an import from the netherlands, but still right hand drive. could this be the issue?

What i need to know now is how do I code these units to work correctly, do i swap the passenger to the drivers side and the new drivers to the passenger :dunno:

I need some help:D

(the car is an import from the netherlands) if that is the case then the protocol is correct. But at the same time the protocol states 1ko959701k being the drivers side, which is not correct, for a RHD.For a start you need to check out the long coding for the central electronics address 09 and check byte 04 Bit 5 Model (0 = Right Hand Drive / 1 = Left Hand Drive) Do you know how to do this?

This may be a bit confusing for you,but you have the correct protocol for a LHD vehicle, but no matter if it is LHD or RHD, part 1k0959701k should be on the left front door and 1k0959702m should be on the right front door.

The long coding for the central electronics unit is correct for a RHD.I would swap the door control units, and try them as the unit [quote]. (the part number on the passenger side controller I took out is 1k0 959 702 k if that helps.) is for the right hand door.As a last resort if they still do not function properly after swapping them. The coding from open.obd, does not state coding the units for RHD,i think i would drop the RHD coding and code both units the same.I think the RHD coding of the CCU should cover this. The address 42 is the left front door and address 52 is the right front door.

thats confusing as the scan said that passenger door controller 52 was faulty...and that was the case. why would they now read the other way round?

The protocol is for a LHD vehicle on which 52 is the passenger side ,

Is 52 on the drivers side of a LHD and the passenger of a RHD?

Should be easy to determine, just run an output test on either 42 or 52 and then see which window goes down. :)

If you look at the protocol address 42 there the Part number is (1K0 959 701 K) this is a part number for the left hand side of the vehicle, but yet the protocol says drivers side. You have also a problem with one of the can bus wires

I done that and the correct window goes down, ie 42 drivers side and 52 passenger.

That is in the drivers side door RHD and is how it came. I've not touched that. Your right on the single wire, when i tried the replacement I got both wires ok, so I think it maybe slighty faulty. but I want to sort the coding confussion first with the passenger side. The problem is the replacement I have is from a drivers door, but whenI connect it nothing work, eg window button central locking etc. don't know what up there.

can single wire is only flagged in gateway so clear all the fault codes and rescan,as only the passenger control unit has been replaced i would consider this control unit is at fault. As the can network hasn't store single wire in more than one control unit i would ignore the stored fault in the gateway.Dont forget every time you swap os and ns door control units to recode for the correct side.I suspect most of the comms errors are due to you disconnecting control units or a terminal 30/31 missing.Start again onzy lol, you've got some serious help going on here bearthebruce,Sebastian and good old kenney

My training is in Micro-Electronics so I'm fascinated by all this and have a good understanding on what's going on, just not specifics ;)

I think Kenny's on the money, but if it can be solved by me not getting anymore sore fingers taking door trim off, I will be happy:D

Yep, that works a treat, so would suggest the controllers seem to talk to each other.

From the info from de. openbd.org 42 is the LH Door and 52 RH Door but that must be sorted by vag com some way.Anyway one step further on, if you wait til tomorrow i will see if i can find out the right parts number for the doors.

yes over the can but the fault lies between the passenger switch and the passenger control unit,as the switch and the loom are good this can only mean the control unit is at fault, confirm by measured value staus change when applying the passenger switch.

That would be fantastic kenny,

I tried that one and the switch value doesn't change in measure values. Just a reference when the fuel flap didn't release, measuring block didn't change, when I got it to work (tapping fuel flap) the button value did change

Could it be that the pin out has change for the window regulator? but then that would of been sorted by the fact that the door loom is also from the car that the controller came from

the door control units differ with sw versions so there may be differing pins. The door loom is in most cases always the same but the pin locations change which makes the most sense as i have found when retro fitting folding mirrors that only certain sw version control units support the pins to allow the function.Again as i said from the off i would suspect the passenger door control unit isn't compatible with the drivers even though some functions work as the likes of can and 30/31 will always be in the correct pin location.Love this thread
To add i cant check the pin outs for you because my lap top blew, i have a new one but it runs on vista so i have lost my elsa/etka and gfs light.vCDS RUNS FINE ON VISTA IF YOUR INTERESTED LOL

VCDS RUNS FINE ON VISTA IF YOUR INTERESTED LOL

I run Vista to and yes VCDS runs well. Best thing I did was upgrade form 409.1 to a Ross tech MicroCAN lead.

I know what your saying on the SW version, but when I tried the controller on the drivers side which matched the passenger. it all went pair shaped!!

It should be clearer when kenny gets some part numbers confirmed ;)

These are the current part numbers for your vehicle 1k0959701l = left front door and 1k0959702l = right front door.So it was as i thought your units are on the wrong doors. If you look at the protocol for the back doors you will see the units parts number correspond with the proper side. uneven numbers =left side, even numbers = right side

So I need to swap them round, Do you think it best that I put the 701 M in rather than the original 701 K as then both units are of a M revision?

I get the trim removal tool out again at the weekend and play musical controller, what is in the back of my mind though is the controllers work now, just one switch is not working, can they just be coded out?

I know you suggested coding both as drivers doors but the coding is 0000692 on both sides, so they are.... food for thought ;)

Right I've just swapped the controllers round and now the passenger is on the drivers side and the passenger is on the drivers side.

There must be a way of telling the can that the controller have moved????

oh the drivers windows now goes up instead of down and down instead of up.

None of the door controls work either

Central locking is ok

try changing the codes for both doors so there coded for the lowest spec and then recode the correct code and delete the memory and cycle the ignition and try that.Still think you have incompatible hardware versions.

erase fault codes or clear fault codes in the address for the control units

So check the fault memory first then clear them

don't forget to turn the ignition off and on after you have coded and cleared the codes

As the fault is only the passenger control unit either check the measured values again for the nsf switch (open.close etc) as this is now the drivers control unit and see if a switch command is present just to clear that bit up.

The control units were plugged in..honest, its the grey connector with the purple lever, it a push in then click, not a click to push in connector...you know what I mean.

Yes and No, it wasn't when i went in last night or this mornig before driving to work, But is since I parked up at work, I can only put it down to the battery volatge reading 11.5v last night and the battery being charged up after 1 hour drive to work :dunno:

What I would lie to see in VCDS is a output test for the fuel filler flap....it would help diagnose if it the switch or the flap and also a good recovey aid as ther is no manual release :(

kenney
17-03-2009, 09:11 AM
No problem, they have cheap tin openers in Tescos :D only joking. If the fuel tank filler flap does not open, open by hand using the release rod -5-. The side trim must be removed to do this. Can send a pic if you want

I've seen that pic Kenny, but cheers for the offer ;)

On the controller front they are back in the wrong configuration, all I can think is that the controllers have some coding for right or left which is set by the VW Tools....but I maybe wrong. something that Ross-Tech may want to investigate, I just happy that it now works.

You guys must get well fed up with removing trim parts, what a PITA ;)

kenney

The tank flap control has nothing to do with coding,Your door control units are coded for RHD, LHD vehicles do not have the +512 bit.The central electronics control unit (long coding)is also coded to RHD.The vehicle i checked, the coding was the same for the front left and the front right door. The tank flap control, function can be checked in the MBV for the CCU.I think it is channel 006,not too sure.So in reality the flap control has nothing to do with the door controllers, apart from they share the same harness.

onzarob
17-03-2009, 11:41 AM
Understand on the Tank Flap, I'll have a look at that.

On the coding of the controller, right and left how would you tell the network that they were now on opposite sides, yes +512 tell the controller its RHD it doesn;t tell it to were in the car it is.

When I swap them over the controller from the drivers side still was controller 42, but the passenger windows goes up and down.....I tried coding it with 180 so -512. there must be something to tell the controller which side od the car it is as the part numbers don't seem to :dunno:

kenney
17-03-2009, 12:09 PM
It is the central electronics unit which receives can signals from the controllers. There is no point in coding the doors with 180,when the CEU is coded for RHD.I thought everything was ok,except for the tank flap?

17-03-2009, 01:33 PM

It is OK. Just explaining what I tried when i swapped the controllers around. :D

As of now the tank flap is working, but I don't know why it stop or started working again, I'll just have to keep an I on it and screwdriver in the boot if I'm desperate ;)
