I know this is a potentially daft question... so please humor me :o

Do the internal friction plates / couplings allow Quattro to work even when the car is reversing?

What about ESC (ESP) / ABS etc?

Cheers,
Al.

Everything works in reverse.

Sounds like you're thinking about a Haldex quattro system i.e. what's on TT, A3, Golf etc

A4 uses Torsen which doesn't have any computer/electronics involvement and is purely mechanical.

Hi,

Well that's the issue - I thought with Torsen, surely it would be bad if all the friction plates / couplings were to run in reverse (when they are used to running in the normal direction 99.9% of the time)?

I assumed the Haldex based systems were electro-mechanically engaged (when drive is needed at a rear wheel) rather than using friction plates?

:dunno:

Torsen is about cogs and gearing rather than friction plates.

Haldex has a hydraulic multiplate clutch.

I wouldn't worry about reversing. I doubt you're using all your power or doign 150mph in reverse very often ;)

p.s. You shouldn't be using a "Q" when talking about quattro ;)

I should copy & paste this in every time I mention it...
