I have to admit I don’t do a lot of work on these anymore, so I wanted to check my info at work first. They don’t have a cam position sensor on the 1.3 Skoda engine, they have a crank speed sensor and wasted spark ignition. The 1.6 AEE engine has a G40 and doesn’t have a crank sensor. What was the fault code number and what are the emissions readings at idle and fast idle?

Unfortunately I am a bit stuck for accurate fault code info on the 135 and 136 engines but certainly ETKA confirms that the car doesn’t have a cam position sensor, only a crank speed sensor which I am sure would come up as G28 but I can’t remember the name of the last customer I had in with this problem, as I could look it up if I did. I have had a few play up with this, sometimes it has been the sensor, others I have had a broken wire inside the harness leading to the sensor. Did he do the fault code read with the engine running or just with the ignition on?

Carrying out a fault code read on many early systems without the engine running will automatically store a crank or cam sensor error-it is a basic error to make.
