cooling fan staying on

the radiator cooling fan stays on after i have stoped the car after a short time it goes off then goes back on a few seconds later this lasts untill the battery is flat has happend twice and it does not happen all the time has anyone any ideas ,also can you disconect the battery without messing up the electronics thanks kev

Common problem, it is usually the fan controller which is built into the large fan and it means a complete new fan pack and frame as it is supplied as a completer unit, about £200 and often on back order as it is such a problem.

LOL i have the same problem on my golf, by any chance do u have the engine light on as well?
