Dash computer fault...

Hi everyone.. i'm a new poster so please be patient.

I have a 2000 1.8t A3.

Recently the dash computer display has been going faulty. lines where no pixels are being displyed have started to show up on it.

The lines not displaying seems to change day by day.

I phoned audi and they have quoted £500 to swap out the part..

Could i go to the skoda dealer instead? Is this a dealership only job?

Any help appreciated.

have you got an after market stereo in it?

no its a factory fitted with BOSE speakers and autochnager in boot

I went to veiw an A3 1.8t the other day and it had similar problems with the dash, but it had an replacement stereo and i thought that was the reason, glad i didnt buy it, but i would be interested in your findings. I would be supprised if the screen needs replacing there is probably a loose conection or a dodgey bulb.
