I am preparing to wire up my Golf V for towing a simple trailer and I do not wish to splice into the OEM wiring harness. My Passat estate had pins on the bulb holders for this, and the Golfs do not.
The price of the VW dealer supplied Electrics is near enough £400 and is way too much for me, and so my question is, has anybody seen or purchased such a thing as a plug or pass through adaper which allows you keep the origional wiring and plugs intact, but provides the additional socket for the trailer feed/signal.
I have seen pass through connecters on USA web sites (not Golf specific) and these sites mention the OEM adapter relative to VW.
If someone can look in Ekta may be they are listed.
It would be appreciated thank you Richard

if you could get the connection for the towbar the car will have to be reprogrammed on the boardnet for towing

you need a 12n multiplex bypass relay. There is plenty of information on this in my tow bar how to and research threads.

I used this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/7-Pin-Car-Specific-towbar-wiring-Volkswagen-Golf-04-ON_W0QQitemZ290290676395QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Cars Parts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item290290676395&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1229%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C 240%3A1318

it is expensive at £100, but you do not need to cut wires or connect into the can wiring or activate anything with a laptop. Most of the wiring connects at the rear of the car, but a long lead goes to the front to the brake pedal switch and a live feed. as it is connected to the rear lights, if a light is out on your trailer it will display the rear light fault warning on the dash.
