hi im new to the forum so hi to everyone.
i am getting my 05 plate golf on tues, but it has bog standard wheels and push on trims. i would love to get some alloys for it, but the prob is i dunno what size to get theres so many sizes. can i just buy the alloys take them to a tyre repair centre and swap the tyres over to the alloy rims?
many thanks :D

Hi The Golf MK5 will take a 19" if you want to go that far. A more sensible option would be 17" of which there are plenty.
Your wheel size will be 5X112 with an offset of 38-50
As for tyres 205, 215 and 225 will be OK Im looking for 215X17 at the moment.
Find a local wheel/tyre outlet and they will certainly help and you could try

Best off getting a set from someonew who has upgraded their standard alloys. 16 will probably be common but 17 (personally) I think will be better. You'll be looking for a tyre size of 225/45 R17 to maintain the correct rolling radius.
Hi Matt,
Sorry to reply to an old post, just looking up my car, MkV Golf with 17" alloys, came with 225/45 R17, however my speedo continually tells me that I'm doing approx 8-10km/h more than i am, any suggestions?

That's the correct 17" tyre size for the MK5.
Thanks Chris, I know it's the right size, just wondering why my speedo is off and can only think of the tyre size as the cause...
