hi. Yes you can buy a single number plate.
Usually from dealerships or even halfords. (depends on the type you need. For example the dealership if its one of those cased around ones that say 'area audi or 'group' audi') If its an old number plate, halfords should do them.

You need to take your owners document. Think its the VO5. Call in advance to check. Its done straight away and costs about £10-15

I had the same problem with the jet wash, it rubs them down after awhile.

Yes it is a traffic offense to have coloured in the letters. AS LONG as you can prove your going to get it straight away. (some people do that to avoid traffic fines and ANPR detection)
